Early Beginnings & Legacy
Soda Springs is named after hundreds of natural springs of carbonated water located in and around the city. These springs were well known to Native Americans and were an important landmark along the Oregon Trail during the middle of the 19th century. Today, Soda Springs is known for the Soda Springs Geyser, unearthed in 1934 by settlers looking for hot water for a bath. The geyser is let loose every hour on the hour by a timed-release valve.
